Leikarringen of Portland
Leikarringen of Portland as of 2023 has a performance group of dancers ages 12 and up. Many of the dancers were involved with the group when they were young and they have now returned in their 20s and 30s. Some are dancers new to the Scandinavian community.
We learn and perform dances from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and even a few from Estonia and Germany. The dances are generally fast-paced and there are couple dances as well as set figure dances. This fall (2023) we had our first return performance at Oktoberfest at Oaks Park. We look forward to dancing at the holiday Goat Market and Midsummer festivals. Currently our young group is not active.
Leikarringen of Portland dancers have traveled to Washington, California, Florida and, of course, locations throughout Oregon. We have performed at many Scandinavian festivals, such as Junction City's Scandinavian Festival, the Astoria Midsummer Festival, Folk Life and others destinations such as the Solvang Danish Festival in California. Dancers have performed at both Disneyland and Disney World. Practices are held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3915 SE Steele St., Portland OR 97202 (click this link for map). Currently there is no charge for participating but you do need to have dance shoes for performances and practices. We will help with costuming!!!
