We are a recreational group dedicated to enjoying and teaching traditional Scandinavian dance. We dance and teach couple dances and lively mixers from all five Nordic countries. Each Monday typically brings out 30 or more dancers of all abilities. We dance at Nordia House, 8800 SW Oleson Rd, Portland. Click here for map.

Happening December 2nd, 2019
Hello dance friends,
Yes, it is really December already, and yes, we will continue Scandinavian dancing and teaching.
Our teaching schedule is designed to slowly get more advanced as the teaching year progresses, and as we are about a third of the way in, we move from waltz and mazurka dances and the Hambo to the Swedish polska -- in particular, the oldest and most basic form, simply known as Gammal Polska (old polska). Our teacher is David Charlebois, a fine teacher and dancer from California, who has been teaching with us for the a number of years. The master sound person and musician Carl will be running the laptop, providing tunes for teaching and all your requested dances. And I expect Kim and other musicians will probably drop by to lend their abilities and instruments to a few tunes, as well.
Remember that teaching starts right at 7:15pm, so aim to arrive by 7pm so you can have time to sign in and change into your dance shoes.
Finally, a reminder that the 35th Annual Scanfair Market takes place December 7 & 8, 2019 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. It is a good place to do some holiday shopping, and you can support our own Leikarringen of Portland by checking out their sale of handmade goods.
Scandinavian dancing takes place almost every Monday night, 7:15 PM to 9:30 PM at Nordia House, 8800 SW Oleson Rd. in Portland, Oregon. There is always more information on our website, norskerunddansere.org.
Weekly Dances - Fall Lessons!
Monday dances: September-May there is a lesson from 7:15 to 8:15pm, with open request dancing to 9:30. Summer Monday dances start at 7:15, but there are no lessons in summer. There is also usually some warm-up time from 7:00-7:15. Drop-in admission is $7 per person or see below about yearly memberships. There is a student discount (up to age 25).
Become a Member - It's a Great Deal
Annual memberships are available. The fiscal year starts October 1st at a rate of $100. That's still only about $2.25 per dance if you attend them all, which is a great deal! In January our pro-rate schedule begins, and we also have other special discounts for those who need it, like students. It's never too late to join and start saving. Get a membership application here.
Why? Our membership fees are just almost enough to meet our expenses. Our rent went up very significantly this year, so we still have a donation jar on the entry table. If your budget allows, would you please consider adding a little extra to your membership dues? If you can help, we thank you so very much!
We also have our own teaching DVDs for sale (set of two for $10) and our sturdy shoe bags for $10 each if you want to contribute that way!
