Welcome!

We are a recreational group dedicated to enjoying and teaching traditional folk dance. We dance and teach couple dances and lively mixers from all five Nordic countries. Each Monday typically brings out 30 or more dancers of all abilities. We dance at Nordia House, 8800 SW Oleson Rd, Portland. Click here for map.

Thank You Musicians and DJs!

A big thanks to those who play tunes for us every Monday! We’re looking for people who want to fill the vital role of DJ for our dance evenings.  Training will be provided if you’re new to this role.  Please email us at  [email protected] if you’re interested…and our heartfelt gratitude in advance!

Donations Welcome (click here)

Why? Our membership fees are just almost enough to meet our expenses. Our rent went up very significantly a couple of years ago, and we will still have a donation jar on the entry table. If your budget allows, would you please consider adding a little extra to your membership dues? If you can help, we thank you so very much!

We also have our own teaching DVDs for sale (set of two for $10) and our sturdy shoe bags for $10 each if you want to contribute that way! (click here)

Everyone is Welcome!

Norske Runddansere does not discriminate. Anyone is welcome to join us- all you need is a willingness to give it a try.

Greetings Norske Runddansere Members & Friends!
Following are substantive actions & updates from the NR Board’s Spring Quarter meeting, April, 27, 2025, as well as a couple of announcements.

First, so this event doesn’t get buried: Fossegrimen will play for dancing, Sat., May 10, 5 pm, at Salem Thor Lodge, 1625 Brush College Rd., NW. The event celebrating Norwegian Independence Day begins with a potluck (bring a dish!), followed by Soren Scheu leading mixers. NR members have attended this event many times and their help with the dancing has been very appreciated.
Board Report (from a light agenda)
  1. NR is working with Portland Community College's Community Education program – and NR Dance Coordinator Juanita Ewing and instructors – to offer Scandinavian dancing as a Community Ed course during its Fall Term. This would introduce more people to our Monday night classes and work to increase membership. The partnership could possibly extend through PCC's Winter and Spring Terms. The agreement is not yet finalized. Other than increased attendance (hopefully), there would be minimal, if any, change in NR's existing lessons schedule and format.
  2. After the meeting, the Snoball Committee received a tentative offer from the Menucha Retreat and Conference Center in the Gorge for the 2025 Snoball, for the weekend of Dec. 20-21. The format will be similar as in the past, with a Saturday overnight option. More details to come as they develop.
Please keep up with Allen’s “Sunday Dance Bulletin.” It features a description of the next taught dance, as well as upcoming events during a busy Midsommer season. One fast-approaching event that bears mention here is a free dance Sat., May 17 (Norwegian Independence Day), 6pm - 8pm, at the Norse Hall, NE Couch and NE 11th Sts. NR members Kim Whitcher Majors and Dave Weisel will be playing. A variety of events kick off the celebration at 1 p.m. More info at:  https://www.norsehall.org/grieg-lodge-special-events/event-one-fk65w

As in the past, there will be no NR class Memorial Day, Mon., May 26.

Thanks to all our volunteers who keep the dancing & fun going!
Robert Sisk, NR President
