We are a recreational group dedicated to enjoying and teaching traditional Scandinavian dance. We dance and teach couple dances and lively mixers from all five Nordic countries. Each Monday typically brings out 30 or more dancers of all abilities. We dance at Nordia House, 8800 SW Oleson Rd, Portland. Click here for map.
Mark your calendars! We will have some exciting visitors (and some locals) for the Harvest Dance. Yes, it will be at Nordia House!

Happening September 16th, 2019
Hello Dance friends,
If you were on hand last week, you’ll recall that we began our first lesson in basic Scandinavian dance. I was pleased to see several new faces and feet there and am grateful to our dance veterans who helped initiate newcomers. We covered the most elementary steps to acquaint dancers with some of the common steps in this style of dance. I hope you agree they were not difficult.
This week we’ll spend a modest amount of time reviewing those dances we touched on. Following that review we’ll introduce another dance, one that includes more figures yet does not require complex steps. Our favorite teacher from Colorado, Keith, will partner with Portland’s Louise to introduce a Norwegian gangar dance from the Telemark region, appropriately called Telegangar. This splendid figures-dance is backed up with hauntingly beautiful fiddle tunes. Both Keith and Louise are exceptional dancers and teachers with decades of experience.
Carl Thor will be at the what-used-to-be-called turntable and making things happen. And our music queen Kim will play some of her dance tunes with whomever she has enticed to join in.
p.s. Although we will start simple, there are lots of possibilities with Telegangar you can check out on youtube like this one.
p.p.s. Registration for Snoball started on September 9th- find the sheets on our Snoball page!
p.p.p.s. Memberships are due October 1st. New members join now and get the rest of September free. Click here for the form.

Become a Member - It's a Great Deal
Annual memberships are available. The fiscal year starts October 1st at a rate of $100. That's still only about $2.25 per dance if you attend them all, which is a great deal! In January our pro-rate schedule begins, and we also have other special discounts for those who need it, like students. It's never too late to join and start saving. Get a membership application here.
Thank You Musicians and DJs!
A big thanks to those who play tunes for us every Monday!
Why? Our membership fees are just almost enough to meet our expenses. Our rent went up very significantly this year, so we still have a donation jar on the entry table. If your budget allows, would you please consider adding a little extra to your membership dues? If you can help, we thank you so very much!
We also have our own teaching DVDs for sale (set of two for $10) and our sturdy shoe bags for $10 each if you want to contribute that way!
