Welcome! We are a recreational group dedicated to enjoying and teaching traditional Scandinavian dance. We dance and teach couple dances and lively mixers from all five Nordic countries. Each Monday typically brings out 30 or more dancers of all abilities. We dance at Nordia House, 8800 SW Oleson Rd, Portland. Click here for map.
News: We started to dance in person again on March 14 2022, for folks with proof of vaccination and booster only at this time. Check out our covid protocols page for requirements to attend. We are very much looking forward to getting together again, to learn and remember dances! Folks are also welcome to come to visit, listen, and watch, and to dance when they feel comfortable. What's Happening This Week 1.23.2023Hello again dance friends,
Sometimes the stars align so that everything falls into place to make our lives even more enjoyable. This happens to be one of those special times. Here’s why: While the Danes also dance the Swedish Hambo, they have their own beautiful dance which has somewhat the same feeling, the motion of it representing the gently rolling waves off the west coast of Jutland. The dance of Sønderhoning is from the town of Sønderho in Denmark. This week Paul and Johanna will be reminding us of the finer points of Sønderhoning/Fannikedans, and none too soon because…we’re thrilled to announce that as part of their West Coast tour, the renowned Danish duo Gangspil will be playing for our dance on Monday Feb 20th! They’ll surely play some Sønderhonings for us, so this is a great week to bring your spanking new notepad, put on those dance shoes and learn something fun and refreshing before the big event.) We’ll begin at 7:15 pm as usual, and we’ll be on the lookout for you . . . and the parking is free. Vaccinations including booster and masks are still required for all NR dance events. Haven't renewed your membership yet? You can do that in person at the dance, or online here. Special Announcement:We are having a bonus special event! A very lively small Danish group of traditional musicians called "Gangspil" are coming to play for us and teach us Danish dances at Nordia House on February 20th. (Search youtube with their name and you will find lots of fantastic recordings, like this one). They love to jam and play for dancers and we are very excited that they have added us to their tour. To help defray costs to NR for this extra event, please donate now below!
