We are a recreational group dedicated to enjoying and teaching traditional Scandinavian dance. We dance and teach couple dances and lively mixers from all five Nordic countries. Each Monday typically brings out 30 or more dancers of all abilities. We dance at Nordia House, 8800 SW Oleson Rd, Portland. Click here for map.
Visit our Facebook page for more photos, videos and other cool stuff! Scroll through the live feed below! No need to belong to Facebook. Click the the box below to see more about particular items.
Why? These days our membership fees are just almost enough to meet our expenses. We didn't want to raise them this year, so we're putting a donation jar on the entry table and hoping for the best! If you can help, thank you!
We also have our own teaching DVDs for sale (set of two for $10) and our new sturdy shoe bags for $10 each if you want to contribute that way!
Everyone is Welcome!
Norske Runddansere does not discriminate. Anyone is welcome to join us- all you need is a willingness to give it a try.
Happening May 20th, 2019
Once again, greetings dance friends,
We had a terrific Scandinavian dance last week which included several first timers and newcomers. I saw a lot of smiling faces, and our deejay Bill did a great job of spinning several just-learned Hambo dances much to the delight of everyone. It was an excellent session.
Now then, what about this week? Well, for the benefit of those who want to learn more and practice more of this dance our other good guy Dave Charlebois will review this same dance, Hambo. The steps and turns will be no different from last week, but I find it helpful to hear the same information from a different perspective. You may find it helpful as well. Come out and see.
At the music helm this week will be the quirky Mr. Allen. He could be easily persuaded to play a dance tune of your request. And backing up the recorded music we are likely to find our music goddess Kim, and perhaps Denis Tuner on his fiddle as well. We're also seeing more of Dave Weisel and his accordion these days. Lucky us.
NOTE: Although the lessons begin as usual at 7:30, there will be separate event at Nordia House that will be wrapping up at 7:00 pm. So as a courtesy, please give them a little room to transition out while we’re coming in.
See you there. I’ll be watching for you.
Monday dances: September-May there is a free lesson from 7:30 to 8:30, with open request dancing to 10pm. Summer Monday dances start at 7:30, but there are no lessons in summer. There is also usually some warm-up time from 7:00-7:30. Admission is $5 per person or see below about yearly memberships.
Become a Member - It's a Great Deal
Memberships are now pro-rated at $25 for the rest of the fiscal year. That means you get in to all lessons and dances at no additional cost through September 30th. (The full year starting October 1st is $60). This is a fabulous dance deal, at a little more than $1/week. It's never to late to join and start saving.
Thank You Musicians and DJs!
A big thanks to those who play tunes for us every Monday!
