We are a recreational group dedicated to enjoying and teaching traditional Scandinavian dance. We dance and teach couple dances and lively mixers from all five Scandinavian countries. Each Monday typically brings
out 30 or more dancers of all abilities.
Dance lessons return!
Happening This Week – Oct. 9, 2016
Hello again dance friends,
We had a terrific turnout at dance last week. Jeff Klein brought us back up to speed on basic Schottis steps along with a very unique and interesting mathematical analysis of how it all comes together. It was truly amazing. You had to be there to fully appreciate his theory.
Following that review we introduced the basic elements of Snoa, a popular and gentle lovely turning dance from Sweden. We will have another look at that this week and try to work out any kinks for those still struggling with the concept of couple turning.
Musically, at one point we had three fiddlers playing within the dance circle. Kim Majors brought a new fiddler (also named Kim) to join her and Amy in providing live music for us. Many, if not all, of us are thrilled to enjoy the live music aspect of our dance evenings. We are so fortunate to have these musicians as part of our group.
Carl Thor will be at the (recorded) music helm for us. As the rotating volunteer host for the evening, Carl takes on the responsibility for arriving early enough to get everything set up for us, keeping the dances and tunes flowing and then wrapping up when the evening ends.
So come and join us for another evening of entertainment and conviviality. We’ll be pleased to see you there! Lessons begin promptly at 7:30. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Yearly membership dues are due Oct. 1. Only $60/year. A deal!
Thank you musicians!
A big thanks to the musicians who play a few tunes for us almost every Monday! It really livens things up.
Why? These days our membership fees are just almost enough to meet our expenses. We didn't want to raise them this year, so we're putting a donation jar on the entry table and hoping for the best! If you can help, thank you!
