We are a recreational group dedicated to enjoying and teaching traditional Scandinavian dance. We dance and teach couple dances and lively mixers from all five Scandinavian countries. Each Monday typically brings
out 30 or more dancers of all abilities.
Thank you musicians!
A big thanks to the musicians who play a few tunes for us almost every Monday! It really livens things up.
Happening This Week – July 24, 2016
Hello again dance friends,
We couldn’t ask for better weather than this. Not too hot, not too cold, not wet at all; it’s just right. Just like a Goldilocks fairy tale. But enough small talk. Let’s talk about a pleasant evening of dance fun at Nordia House. We did it last week, we did it the week before that and there’s no reason we can’t do it again this week.
We do a lot of dances on Mondays, a wide variety. Some can be learned quickly and enjoyed thoroughly. Others take more time and effort to learn, but once learned they are enjoyed thoroughly as well. You don’t have to think about your steps so much.
But, in addition to the challenge of learning the steps
to these Scandinavian dances, it can be almost as challenging to associate the names with the steps.
“What is that dance I like that starts with the left foot
and turns clockwise, and then turns counter clockwise?” “Don’t we change hands here somewhere?” There seems to be no end to the questions.
The more complex, interesting dances take practice long after the initiation. And that’s where our summertime open dances come into play. Here is where you can practice those elusive turns and pivots, where you can observe others working on their troublesome parts, where you can ask questions about others’ experiences. Here is where you can improve your own skills….if you want.
Otherwise you can simply have fun with what you already know. It doesn’t have to be complicated to have fun.
So come and join us. We start at 7:30 p.m. See you there!
Why? These days our membership fees are just almost enough to meet our expenses. We didn't want to raise them this year, so we're putting a donation jar on the entry table and hoping for the best! If you can help, thank you!
