We are a recreational group dedicated to enjoying and teaching traditional Scandinavian dance. We dance and teach couple dances and lively mixers from all five Scandinavian countries. Each Monday typically brings
out 30 or more dancers of all abilities.
Dance lessons return!
Happening This Week – Sept. 25, 2016
Hello dance friends,
Alright, we made good progress last week when we reviewed Telegangar and some essential tips on partnering and figuring. I’ve gotten good feedback from many who there for the first or second time, and we want to hear from you too.
This week we will look at beginning steps for Schottis, a dance that is common to many cultures. The basic steps are easy to grasp and practice, and then you can fill a hundred and one variations on the basic step so that it becomes very interesting on many levels. The dance will be taught by Jeff Klein, a long time dancer and member who lives further down the valley. We don’t see Jeff often enough, but we have high regard for his skills and teaching acumen. You’ll like him! After the schottis steps Jeff will introduce a light hearted mixer that we have not seen for some time. A Ti Ti Jenkka is also fairly easy to learn and comes with a guarantee to put a smile on your face. You ought to come and join in the fun.
No doubt our host this week, Mr. Bill Hoyland, will throw in a Telegangar or two so that you can practice our recent lessons. And of course we always look forward to live music from Kim and friends.
Lessons begin almost promptly at 7:29 p.m., but you could come earlier for warm up and idle chat.
Yearly membership dues are due Oct. 1. Only $60/year. A deal!
Thank you musicians!
A big thanks to the musicians who play a few tunes for us almost every Monday! It really livens things up.
Why? These days our membership fees are just almost enough to meet our expenses. We didn't want to raise them this year, so we're putting a donation jar on the entry table and hoping for the best! If you can help, thank you!
